With our connections to Italy and our great love of all things Italian we thought it was about time we did a photo shoot there. So we decided to plan a shoot in Positano... allowing ourselves 3 weeks to plan it...slightly stressful! That is until we found Santangelo Studios. They were our saviours. They helped us plan every detail of our shoot and we would have been lost without them.
The day began at 8am with a working breakfast and brief with the team at our hotel- Casa Buonocore. The team consisted of our wonderful photographer Diego, two assistants, Luca (location scout), Maria-Concetta (model) and Emanuel (hair and make-up). Our Friend Fiona Williams from McHugh Lifestyle was also there to offer a helping hand and documenting the shoot for us. The make-up artist got straight to work on the model. He created a natural look, with simple make up to show her true beauty. Francesca and I had planned the outfit and jewellery changes before the trip. With loaned dresses from We Are Leone, De La Vali and Gul Hurgel, plus pieces from our own wardrobes by Dolce and Gabbana, Misa Los Angeles and Love Shack Fancy, we carefully put together the models wardrobe.
Working breakfast at the hotel.
Our hotel was in the centre of Positano- the perfect location for the famous Positano views. We did some shots on the roof and balcony of our hotel, the staff were very accommodating and we were grateful that they allowed us to shoot in this fabulous spot.
Shooting on the roof terraces of Casa Buonocore hotel in Positano centre.
After shooting 3 outfit changes at the hotel- including the chic lemon embroidered Gul Hurgel dress, we packed up to start our walk down to the beach front. Anyone who has been to Positano will know that elbowing your way down the narrow cobbles can be quite challenging, now throw rucksacks full of heavy equipment, props and clothing into the mix, it was interesting! Our first stop was a beach restaurant that had a beautiful water fountain, Luca worked his magic and we were granted permission to do a few shots there. Maria looked beautiful in our pearl cross pieces and a polka dot dress by De La Vali.
Next we drove to a viewpoint where a traditional Italian fruit seller has his cart set up. The fruit seller was very entertaining and we took many bright and vibrant images here. The model wore the coral print We Are Leone dress, our coral jewellery pieces complimented it perfectly. We had some freshly made strawberry and orange juice while overlooking the bright blue sea- definitely NOT another day at the office!
Our next stop was the beach in Praiano . A small pebble beach which I have passed on previous trips while driving between Positano and Ravello, but have never stopped at. That won't happen again, I will definitely be stopping here on any future visits. A small beach with crystal clear waters and a lovely traditional restaurant complete with picturesque fishing boats. We set up on the sea shore (unfortunately the sunbathers now had a view of us instead of the sea- but they seemed to be quite intriqued by the change of scenery). The model wore blue gingham DVF shorts, a stripy Dolce and Gabbana top and a Benoit Missolin headband for a fun, relaxed, beachy look. We then stopped for lunch- spaghetti with clams and calamari by the sea- perfect!
After lunch we did some shots at the top of the beach. Maria wore the pink Misa Los Angeles dress and a colourful Dolce and Gabbana playsuit which complimented the bright blue scenery and colourful boats. A prop of an ice cream was added- an Italian beach trip wouldn't be complete without some gelato!
Still on Praiano beach, we went down to the shore to show off the next outfit, the bright Koi dress from We Are Leone looked great against the water and rocks by the sea. The model bravely climbed up onto the rock to get some good shots.
When we had finished on the beach and it was drawing towards the end of the day. We made our way to another beautiful view point to shoot the final outfits and jewellery- two De La Vali dresses with our onyx and pearl cross pieces, which were a match made in heaven. The sun was starting to go down so it was a race against time to get the final images- but we made it and we were so gratefull to the team for working so hard to get there.
It was a long and successful day. We had perfect weather, a great team and were pretty sure the final images would be fabulous- what more could we ask for from our first location shoot?
